Today’s businesses expect a lot when it comes to their data networks.  Speed, reliability, robustness, and scalability are just a few of the performance parameters with high standards from business users.  One area in particular requiring special emphasis is security.  Choosing the right network infrastructure is critical to ensuring that your security requirements are met end to end …. and everywhere in between.  For example …. do NOT be so enamored with a traditional VPN backbone (e.g. Layer 2–based VPN services such as ATM and Frame Relay) that you overlook the drawbacks in maintaining the secure environment that your company applications will require.  A standard VPN will not offer the same level of privacy and security as will a private dedicated backbone.  At least not without extra effort on your part … and higher costs therefore in the long run. A typical virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network that is layered on top of an underlying computer network. This is most commonly a public telecommunication infrastructure such as the internet.  The private nature of a VPN means that the data travelling over the VPN is not generally visible to, or is encapsulated from, the underlying network traffic.  Although it is run “layered” on top of a public pathway (the internet) …. secure segregation of the two is enacted through using encrypted tunnels to ensure that data cannot be accessed without authorization. The purpose of a VPN is to enable remote locations and/or individual users (e.g. telecommute staff) to access a company’s network with some expectation of secure activity.  An additional intent is to avoid the perceived high cost of owned or leased lines (dedicated circuits) that can only be used by one business.  So, the goal of a VPN is to provide the organization with the same, secure capabilities, as a dedicated network.  But at a much lower cost. However that presumption is misleading.  A traditional VPN network is not as secure as you likely expect and need.  After all … it is still tied to a public infrastructure.  A talented and persistent intruder can still defeat most encryption safeguards.  Plus, a glitch in the hardware or software leaves your information open to public eyes.  The appearance of failsafe privacy and security is really just that …. an appearance. As for cost …. the price tag of the extra hardware and software to enable encrypted communication over your entire network is not cheap.  Even though it may appear so compared to other options you may be considering.  There’s much more to the cost than set-up, installation, and encryption software.  Don’t overlook the maintenance, oversight, and trouble shooting of those safeguards.  Particularly since you are responsible for all of that …. forever …. just to try and save a few pennies. This is where MPLS comes in.  The architecture and protocols of MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) are predicated on the absolute privacy and security enabled via a dedicated network infrastructure.   Put simply ….. the entire network is completely separate and unto itself.  You own it, share it with no one, and there is no connectivity of any kind with a public infrastructure.  Now that is security.  To further drive home the main point of this entire article in simple terms ….. with private lines or MPLS solutions, there is no path from the public into those network facilities.  With VPN over the internet, the path is there and it’s your responsibility to provide your own security.  Think of the difference between a brick wall, and a brick wall with a door.   VPN over the internet is the wall with a door, and you have to manage the lock and keys.  Once your MPLS core is configured and operating ….. you’re done.  In fact it’s unlikely you would even have much involvement with that.  Your provider will do it all for you.  Since it’s a dedicated circuit network you are not responsible for the maintenance, oversight, and troubleshooting you would be with a VPN.  In short …. it’s hands off for you.  No recurring costs except the monthly “leasing” fee for the lines comprising your network.  Before you play the cost card ….. look deeper.  The price of all dedicated circuits has been dropping dramatically for the last few years.  Whether it’s copper or fiber based …. the sticker shock days of old for dedicated T1 lines, DS3 Bandwidth, or SONET circuits (e.g. OCx) is long past.  In fact …. probably the best deal for you today is pursuing MPLS over an Ethernet backbone.   You’ll get the best of both security and cost savings. Best VPN services which have antivirus and firewall at their servers appear to have much better results in protection against known and unknown malware threats. As new viruses appear daily and hourly, regular updates provided by your Anti-virus software is not enough to defeat new malware. Antivirus software today is also able to defend against unknown threats using some generic techniques like passive heuristics. The median average of Antivirus programs today can detect 85% of known threats and 40% of unknown threats. Is there a way to improve your antivirus protection? Best free VPN services and best hosted vpn can help. Best VPN services in conjunction with Antivirus on their servers appear to have much better results in protection against known and unknown threats. As there is an additional layer of defense between the user and his computer, VPN makes it much more difficult for known threats to locate specific target machines. As some VPN services have firewalls at their servers, many threats are blocked there and since IP addresses are assigned, malware cannot specifically target known IP addresses. Further if a good VPN service also provides Antivirus as well as Firewall, the risk drops appreciably, particularly if the antivirus utilized at the server is different than that at the users’ machine as each Antivirus relies on different generic techniques for dealing with new threats. In this case, the risk of known viruses can drop to as low as 2.5% and unknown threats to between 10-20%, far better than the current 15% and 50% by using a standalone Antivirus program. Antivirus and protected data An area in which Antivirus has limited value is protection of data that leaves the machine to make numerous hops through unknown routers on the way to its final destination. The data packets composing the data are completely vulnerable to theft and manipulation and Antivirus has no role to play here. Although Antivirus products often claim that their software protect data on the Internet, in fact once the data passes onto the open internet, it can be seen by third parties, stolen, manipulated, collected, stored or made to vanish. Antivirus has absolutely no protective value online and it is estimated by the Federal Trade Commission that over 65% of users ID details are stolen online notwithstanding Antivirus’ claims that their programs are effective online. Best free VPN is more effective at protecting your online data It appears that a properly encrypted VPN provides complete protection against online data threats. If the VPN’s service provides real 128 bit or 256 bit encryption, the data is effectively off limits to third parties trying to scan, sniff or steal data packets. For data that is not on the machine but traveling across routers, this appears to be the only effective protection. You can find more on why best VPN services are more effective at protecting you against online threats than an antivirus on my site. As I was researching online security for my own personal use, I came to the conclusion that VPN appeared to be a good way to secure my online data from various online threats. If you’re planning to start an on-line enterprise, or if you’ve already got one, you’ll know that there are many different web hosting plans out there – each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. The least expensive is very popular shared hosting with hundreds of web sites all sharing a single, very large hard drive. However this type of Hosting is not always well suited for all sites, especially for high traffic sites, because it is not always possible to isolate each website from other sites that share the server. The really big sites employ dedicated servers. One company. One server. In between these two options is virtual private server, or VPS. VPS is less expensive (much less) than a dedicated or private server, and offers more freedom and many more options to a growing on-line business than shared hosting. With a Virtual Private Server, each web hosting account receives their own operating system. Users can configure these components without affecting other users on the same physical machine because they are working within their own virtual server. Moreover a VPS hosting environment can be smoothly scaled to even more powerful physical hosts as demand increases. In the long run, hosting on a VPS can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership. VPS isn’t suitable for every site owner. Some people wish to host a low-to-moderate traffic website and are happy with the level of control offered by a web hosting control panel like cPanel or Plesk. These individuals will prefer Shared Hosting for its perceived simplicity and ease of use: they generally do not have linux system administration experience and they are not interested in picking up any. Other have outgrown their shared hosting account or aren’t happy with site performance (30-second download times) then it’s definitely time to move up to a VPS account. A good web hosting company will help you migrate from your shared account to a VPS account without any breakdowns or hassles.Do I Need VPS? If you plan to expand, offering more products and services, then consider a VPS plan even as a start-up. The difference in price between a good shared hosting plan and a good VPS plan is negligible in the whole bang-buck equation. These are the main advantages: PERFORMANCEShared server accounts are always dependent on the performance and good behavior of neighboring accounts. If one account violates their terms of service and sends out a mass-mailing of spam, this will load the server and negatively impact the performance of all accounts on that server.VPS have guaranteed resources. One customer can not run away with a large share of the resources. You service will run reliably and predictably. If you have a bad VPS neighbor, they will tend to impact only their own account, as each account appears like a separate server to the Internet. They will not be able to grab your memory when you need it, get your server blacklisted, etc. HIGH CUSTOMIZABILITYVirtual Private Servers are very feature rich. They are functionally equivalent to a dedicated server. Some applications require that certain ports and/or protocols be opened or closed in the firewall. With Shared hosting, custom firewall configurations are not advisable for security reasons. Under the VPS, custom firewall configurations are feasible because of the partitioning between customers. With a VPS, you can close ports using the IPTables feature. You have your own IP Address. You have Root Access.Freedom to reboot your VPS at any time. You can customize services such as web, mail, database, panels, domainsand much more…The only limitation is you are not able to install your own kernel. This is due to the nature of how a VPS work. SECURITYShared hosting is inherently difficult to secure completely. If an account on a shared server is broken into, the criminal may cause damage to the entire server, causing extended outages. If a spammer causes the server to get blacklisted with Spam organizations, this may impact other accounts that produce legitimate mailings until the server is whitelisted again.VPS accounts are insulated from each other, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access from hackers as well as other customers. The isolation of your account also minimizes the risk of being impacted by a DoS attack that was intended for someone else. SCALABILITYVirtual private servers are inherently scalable – whether you need a minimal allocation to run a simple e-mail server or virtual private network end-point or a webserver with enough resources to support extensive database applications and heavy traffic, there is always a VPS hosting plan to meet your needs. Moreover you can anytime easily downgrade or upgrade your service with very little or no downtime! UNLIMITED WEBSITESAnother advantage to VPS is the ability to manage numerous web sites. You won’t run into problems with hardware sharing even if you run a dozen different sites. Your access to server assets is assured through the use of server-side software such as Apache Virtual Hosts and similar VPS packages. VPS hosting plans are a bit pricier than shared hosting. But with more and more sites coming on-line (approximately 6,000 a day!) VPS offers better value for your server dollars when you can host as many sites as you want. When considering VPS plans, amortize the monthly costs over the number of sites you anticipate creating. You’ll quickly see that VPS monthly costs are consistently lower than shared hosting on a per site basis.   There may be a little downside to VPS for some people. VPS = more responsibility. That means you are responsible for many of the software installations, site maintenance, site security and many of the other responsibilities that come with on-line business ownership. If you don’t know much about server side administration, VPS may be a bit more than you want to take on yourself. This is something to farm out to an expert if you’re not familiar with maintaining a VPS, but you still need the power and control of VPS.The solution  – get a managed vps, the hosting provider will take care of those things for you and you can pay full attention to your websites content.

Online Chat Rooms- the best teacher Chat Rooms- newest form of pen friendship Virtual friends, even in the past were fun- you could just be yourself with the person you wrote to without any inhibitions. The newest form of this pen friendship is of course net friendship and there is no better way to make friends that to log on to online chat rooms. With lifestyles becoming hectic, wee office hours and more net savvy people, online chat is here to stay. With new technological innovations everyday, the cyber space is rapidly changing from the virtual space it has been. These days, you can talk real time and see the person you are chatting with through a video chat. Networking on Online Chat Rooms Social networking sites are good to network your way in finding people with similar sets of interests and professional preferences. But online chat rooms are better by a notch- you can find the room for exactly what you are searching. Topic based sites are definitely a lot quicker and hassle free for any one. Say if you are looking at setting up a charity group, you might find a room specially aimed at this. Most of these rooms are moderated so that you do not have to bother about the communication going out of context. In fact, some of the best online chat rooms are commonly visited by very knowledgeable people and you can easily look at improving your knowledge base. Respecting the Age Requirement Norms in Chat Rooms Many online chat rooms require a minimum age requirement of 18 years to enter the chat portal. This is not to be mistaken for the chat room being inclined to either adult content or violent. This in fact is a good idea because often kids find it difficult to adhere to the chat room norms and end up messing with the topic of discussion. Privacy also becomes an issue if kids participating in an adult chat room do not know how to protect themselves. Tender souls may be surprised and shocked at very naïve and innocent acts of adults and may lead adults to be more conscious unnecessarily. Especially user created rooms and private rooms may be a zone where kids should no way be allowed as it could be offensive to both the child and the adult. So, it is better to choose a chat site that monitors the age requirement norms well. Live chat sessions in online chat rooms can be the best way to experience the cultural diversity in the world. We all have studied in social science in our school days about how the Indians or the Japanese lived but such knowledge is of no use if we do not get real time experience. Chat rooms are the best way where by we can know about cultures from across the globe without actually visiting the places. And all this socializing and knowledge is free with the free online chat!!
